Jonathan Schultz, Principal
Jon has been at Zion since 2007. He had been a teacher, coach, and administrator since 1982 and served in Indiana, Missouri, and Arizona before arriving at Zion. Jon graduated from Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska in 1982 with a BS in Education. He received his MS in Education from Indiana University in 1988. He enjoys getting to know the students and families at Zion each year and appreciates the high standards that make Zion an awesome school. Jon enjoys most sports, but his favorites are basketball and football. He also loves to spend time with his family and friends.
Katy Garletts , Pre-School Teacher
Katy has been working at the childcare/preschool level since 2006. She began working at Zion in 2011 and is now our lead teacher for our preschool class. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in Animal Equine Industry. She intends to complete her Masters in Education. She enjoys working and playing with children. She got married in 2014 and is expecting her first child soon. Her hobbies include doing art projects and she loves almost everything about animals.
Joni Swanson, Director of ELC & Pre-K teacher
Joni has been teaching since 1980 and has been at Zion since 2006. She has her BS from St. John’s Lutheran College, Winfield, Kansas and her MA in Teaching the Gifted and Talented from Whitworth in Spokane, Washington. SHe is currently working on her EdD. She loves little people! Their energy drives her. She enjoys family trips, sewing and reading! Her spare time is spent chasing her four grandchildren!
Tiffany Smith, Kindergarten
Tiffany graduated from Concordia University, Portland in May 2006 with a BA in Education and is currently working on finishing her MA in Reading. She has been working at Zion since 2008 in the middle school, 5th grade and now kindergarten. She enjoys the academic and family focus in our Christ-centered school. Harrison joined the Smith family and Zion family in October of 2015. She and her family love to play games, watch TV, go camping, and eat out with family and friends.
Nancy Schaefer, 1st and 2nd Grade
Nancy joined the Zion faculty in 2011. She has a BA from UC San Diego and an MA from Concordia University, Irvine CA. From 1993-1997, she served several Lutheran schools in Southern California as a first grade teacher and also as a Spanish teacher for all grades. Nancy displays a love of children and currently is experiencing Zion as a parent of two children. Her hobbies include reading, walking, scrapbooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Robert Walz, 3rd and 4th Grade
Robert has taught since 1992 and has been at Zion since 2002. He has a BS in Education and an MA in Education from Concordia University, Seward. He likes teaching at Zion because he gets to work with a great staff and wonderful families and students. His favorite grade is fourth. His hobbies include walking, tennis, and pinochle. 5th and 6th Grade Homeroom, Rachelle Reid
I graduated from EOU with a BS in multidisciplinary education ECE through 8th grade. I also received a reading specialist endorsement. I am interested in working in a Christ-centered environment so I can more deeply express my passion for helping people to my students. I have a special interest in special education and English language learners. I enjoy missionary work, camping, full-size rig wheeling, camping, and gardening. I am also very excited about creating life-long learners!
7th and 8th Grade Homeroom, Adam Reed
Adam has been teaching since 1995 and began his ministry at Zion in 1996. He has a BA in History and a BS in Political Science from Arizona State. He has a teaching certificate from Concordia, Portland. His teaching emphasis in the middle school is history and P.E. He is also the drama and chess coach. Adam likes being at Zion because he likes to help serve others. His favorite subject is World History. He enjoys learning new things.
Kelly Peterson, 6th – 8th Grade Math
Kelly taught in Zion’s middle school from 1996 to 1998 and has subbed at Zion in multiple grades since then. She has a BS in Mathematics with a secondary education endorsement. She is excited to be back in the middle school, focusing on math. Her hobbies include cooking, family games, and reading. You can visit Mrs. Peterson’s online website by clicking here.
Robin Rybarczyk, Middle School Science
Robin has been teaching in Corvallis for 16 years. She has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in private and public schools. She was a Peace Corps volunteer for 4 years. She began teaching at Zion in 2015. She has a B.S. in biology and chemistry from U.C.S.C. and an MS in Information Technology from W.O.U. She looks forward to being part of a Christ-centered community once again. She enjoys reading, walking, pickle ball, swimming, and traveling.
